Creative Community Research
At Creative Community Impact Association (CCIA), we explore how creative practice strengthens belonging, collective care, and social impact. Through workshops, reflection, and creative documentation, we generate insights that refine programming, support advocacy, and inspire communities across Canada.
Fostering Belonging, Creativity, and Community Impact

Our Research Goals
-
Measure Impact: Understand the social and cultural contributions of creative work
-
Enhance Inclusion: Identify strategies to make creative spaces more accessible
-
Drive Strategy: Use reflections and artifacts to strengthen programs and advocacy
-
Build Resilience: Support equitable practices that reinforce community strength
Our Methodology
CCIA research is participatory, ethical, and arts-based. We gather:
-
Participant Reflections – through prompts, journaling, and creative exercises
-
Creative Artifacts – artworks, and visual documentation
-
Facilitator Observations – noting patterns in collaboration, engagement, and dialogue
These insights inform program design, advocacy, and sector knowledge sharing.
The Importance of Research
Research is central to how we grow, strengthen, and sustain our work. Evidence not only sharpens our programming, it strengthens our advocacy, helping us clearly demonstrate the impact of arts-based community initiatives. Even early-stage insights reveal how creative practice fosters belonging, nurtures collective care, and builds resilient connections across diverse communities. By documenting reflections, creative artifacts, and participant experiences, we continuously refine our workshops and deepen their effectiveness. Sharing these learnings openly also contributes to the broader cultural sector, offering models, inspiration, and practical insights that support other organizations working to create meaningful, lasting social change.
Looking Ahead
As our research initiative grows, we will invite more artists and cultural workers to participate. All findings, including reports, toolkits, and creative insights, will be shared publicly to inspire sector-wide innovation and strengthen community-building practices.

Featured Partnership: AccessArt Alliance
We are proud to contribute to the national, multi-year Public Art & Accessibility Research
Project, led by AccessArt Alliance in Toronto. Operating from Halifax, CCIA is expanding the
project’s geographic reach and depth. By incorporating diverse perspectives, we are helping
build a comprehensive understanding of accessibility in public spaces for people with disabilities.
This project is generously supported by: Canada Council for the Arts, City of Toronto and ArtsPond.
